About the centre

The Medieval Centre – briefly

The Medieval Centre is a self-containing foundation, financially supported by state and county authorities. This support amounts to app. 30% of the total annual budget.

-The Centre has some 70.000 visitors p.A.

-The Centre has achieved four stars in the national DTA-guide

-The foundation of the centre states a duty to perform research in early technology and craftsmanship, and to present the results to the public.

- The centre has a number of focal points in research. It has of lately taken part in the internationally acclaimed Galathea III-expedition with a project on sulpher and saltpetre in early gunpowder-making – a project that will continue at the centre in the years to come. Medieval textiles is another focal area, in which the centre hosts an international group of researchers working in that particular field. Finally, an important project on building costums and techniques of the Middle Ages is currently in progress.
