Project Baltic Bridge II Since July 2008 the Medieval Centre has been engaged in the project Baltic Bridge II – Information Highway to the Past. The project is being conducted in a cooperation with the Oldenburger Wallmuseum in Ostholstein, Germany, as a part of the EEC´s program Interreg Iva, covering the Fehmarnbelt region. The project will run unitl June 30th 2011. In the period 2005 – 2007, the Medieval Centre ran a similar project with the Oldenburg museum. The ongoing project can thus be seen as a continuation of an already established, well-working cooperation. The aim is to stimulate mutual inspiration and a bilateral development of the two institutions. Main focus is on the maritime contacts, but the project will have an effect on many aspects of the work of the Medieval Centre, such as marketing and cultural events on both sides of the border, and development of new concepts and activities. Special emphasis is laid on the commom history across the western end of the Baltic Sea, and the interpretation of this to the public. In earlier times, the sea was not an obstacle, but a connection. Water connected people, and a lively exchange of goods and culture took place across the sea. During the middle ages, Lolland and Falster was a kind of “borderland”, and even today clear evidence of the common cultural heritage can be found, if you know where to look for it. In effect, the cooperation means that representatives of the Oldenburger Wallmuseum may be seen operating as parttakers in the work at the Medieval Centre. Likewise, the Medieval Centre will take part in a series of events in Holstein. The Medieval Centre is looking forward to a beneficial and productive cooperation in the years to come.
