Crafts in the Middle Ages
In the first week of August, we focus on handcrafts in the Middle Ages. Lots of crafts and traditions have largely gone into oblivion in the 21st-century, but in 1412 there were plenty of stonemasons, needle makers, rope makers, dyers, and many, many other types of handicrafts.
We have invited various skilled craftspeople to Sundkøbing to ‒ together with our own skilled interpreters and volunteers ‒ show how craftsmanship was performed before machines took over.
It will be possible to meet two boat builders while they build a small rowing boat, a skilled craftsman making maille armor from scratch, the shoemaker, the potter, the needle maker, and so on…
There will be an opportunity to try your hand at making roof shavings, cutting dowels, or helping to make a rope on the rope makers' house.
A day with the opportunity for contemplation, conversations with the craftspeople, but also to try for yourself and to experience the medieval town full of life with craftspeople in all the houses.
NOTE!!! Due to the heat wave, we have to cancel the knight tournament Thursday, August 4, for the sake of the horses.
