St Luke’s Workshop
5 - 6 and 19 - 20 September 2026 - 12:30 - 14:30
Can you make medieval paint?
On your journey through time at the Medieval Centre, you can take part in St Luke’s Workshop and try your hand at making medieval colours.
Take a seat for a moment and crush pigments, mix paints and create your own colour samples. Together, we’ll explore whether we can identify a local palette of colours – and perhaps recreate some of the colours we see in medieval frescoes.
But how were the colours we see in medieval frescoes actually produced? We’ll explore this through experimental archaeology, where you can try out the materials and techniques for yourself.
Come and explore the world of colour – from pigment to brush.
